Last Saturday Guinness and I headed to Tribble Mill Park in Lawrenceville to run our very first 5k together!
I decided to go all neon (really, I just wanted to wear these fun Pro Compression socks)
Since it was going to take us close to an hour to get there, I wanted to make sure we weren’t rushing and had plenty of time. Guinness was not feeling the 6 a.m. wake up call -
A little background on the organization from their website -
You lucky dog rescue is a IRC 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue of homeless and abandoned dogs from the high-kill shelters of North Georgia.
We believe it is our moral responsibility to save, protect, and improve the lives of these dogs through the help of committed volunteers, foster homes, donors, local veterinarians, and trainers. We strive to re-introduce these dogs to society, assess their individual needs, and provide them with a loving temporary home while matching them with only the best, carefully screened forever homes.
I have volunteered for this amazing organization a couple of times and hope to do so more in the near future. The dedication of the volunteers and fosters is impeccable and I was happy to participate in a race that gave back to a cause that I feel so strongly for.
The race was super easy to get to and very well organized. Guinness and I met up with my friend, Ramona, her boyfriend, and some of her friends from their weekly running group. We chatted a bit and then headed to the start line. Guinness and I started toward the back so we didn’t get in the way of those running solo.
And we were off! The course was very shaded, but quite hilly. I did enjoy the course though. Guinness did great! He’s still learning how to run on the leash and needs a little guidance, but that comes with time.
Ramona was nice enough to snap some pictures of us making our way to the finish line (and we were running even though it looks like we’re walking) :P
Once we finished we hung out in the shade for a bit.
Ramona was pretty sure that she placed in her age group, so we headed up to the pavilion to hear the winners announced. Ramona got 2nd in her age group, and Guinness and I placed 3rd in ours!
Everyone in our mini group placed in their age group!
After the race we headed home, but not before a stop to get Guinness a special treat – a celebratory beer!
Once we got home, Guinness did a lot of this for the rest of the day -
He was spent!
The race had a great race packet, and I really loved the race shirt!
They even included a treat for the pups :)
I’m already looking forward to this race next year. If you’re looking for a dog to adopt, check out You Lucky Dog Rescue. They have some fantastic dogs looking for a “fur”-ever home!
What’s your favorite cause to run for?
Until next time,
Awww Guinness is adorable! He looks wiped out :0) Glad you had a fun race! I love how great a cause it was for!
ReplyDeleteYour race looks like such fun, we have a spritely pug who I am sure would love to run - but shame, I dont think he would make a 5km! hehe, Congrats on placing! X
