So Tuesday was the official start to the Dumbo Challenge training per the Jeff Galloway training program. I plan to use his program since it is specifically designed to get your body accustomed to running two races two days in a row.
I have been a horrible runner ever since my half marathons have been over, so I knew my first run was going to be a rough one. I took my run/walk intervals down to 1:00/1:00 (from 1:30/1:00) and ran around my neighborhood for 30 minutes. I did not stop to walk during my run intervals, which is a small victory. My pace slowed down for the second mile (which it usually does…I haven’t started getting consistent negative splits), but I finished. Everyone has to start somewhere, and even though I’ve really slacked, I’m confident that I can get my endurance back.
My second run is tonight – another 30 minute run. Hopefully I can go a little further in this one. The weather is supposed to be cloudy, so that should make for a decent run. Here’s hoping!
Are you running the Dumbo Double Dare? Are you using Galloway’s training or coming up with your own?
Until next time,
Jen
Great job getting back out there! I'm so excited to follow your training for the Dumbo Challenge. I'm running the Glass Slipper Challenge and will be using the Galloway method too.
ReplyDeleteThat's great! I bet the training for Glass Slipper challenge will be the same as the Dumbo
DeleteI can't wait for CALIFORNIA!
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited! Would love to meet you!

ReplyDeleteim so excited to follow along with your training! i am going sign up for the glass slipper challenge at the princess half in disneyworld and have been wondering what the training will look like. your blog will give me the perfect opportunity to see it in action:)
ReplyDeleteAw thanks! I'm guessing that the Glass Slipper Challenge training will be very similar, if not the same, as the Dumbo
DeleteGood luck on your training, I have no doubt you will build back up to where you want to be (and beyond) with your running! Can't wait to follow along with you!
ReplyDeleteThanks Laura :)
DeleteSO exciting! It will be here before you know it!! :0)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait! Would love to meet you while we're there :)
DeleteI need to get training... I have been running some 1/2's but need to get on a training plan. It is weird to do a long run of 13 miles on the weekend but only run 30 minutes during the week. If it helps keep me on a plan I'll try it.
ReplyDeleteThere are tons of other training plans out there that you could merge to fit with the Dumbo plan, too. I like the Hal Higdon plans as well.
