Day 1 – Dumbo Challenge Training

So Tuesday was the official start to the Dumbo Challenge training per the Jeff Galloway training program.  I plan to use his program since it is specifically designed to get your body accustomed to running two races two days in a row.

I have been a horrible runner ever since my half marathons have been over, so I knew my first run was going to be a rough one.  I took my run/walk intervals down to 1:00/1:00 (from 1:30/1:00) and ran around my neighborhood for 30 minutes.  I did not stop to walk during my run intervals, which is a small victory.  My pace slowed down for the second mile (which it usually does…I haven’t started getting consistent negative splits), but I finished.  Everyone has to start somewhere, and even though I’ve really slacked, I’m confident that I can get my endurance back.

My second run is tonight – another 30 minute run.  Hopefully I can go a little further in this one.  The weather is supposed to be cloudy, so that should make for a decent run.  Here’s hoping!

Are you running the Dumbo Double Dare?  Are you using Galloway’s training or coming up with your own?

Until next time,

Jen

    1. Aw thanks! I'm guessing that the Glass Slipper Challenge training will be very similar, if not the same, as the Dumbo

  7. I need to get training... I have been running some 1/2's but need to get on a training plan. It is weird to do a long run of 13 miles on the weekend but only run 30 minutes during the week. If it helps keep me on a plan I'll try it.

    1. There are tons of other training plans out there that you could merge to fit with the Dumbo plan, too. I like the Hal Higdon plans as well.
